Youth Golf - A "Driving" Force

One of our current projects, the redevelopment of Doon Valley Golf Course in Kitchener, Ontario, has an important "driving" force behind it. Upon opening in Fall 2010, the new Youth Incentive Program will be one of a kind and unique to the region. Doon Valley believes that the Youth is the future of golf, and have been able to capitalize that fact, where other course have not. We have created a mini nine hole training facility with "practice holes" that the youth can start with before playing the real golf course. This will provide the youth with an excellent opportunity to start the game of golf. I am sure that when the redevelopment of Doon reopens, the course will offer many programs and lessons directed at youth. As the son of a golf course architect, I have been fortunate to be involved in many youth-geared golf programs throughout our region. From junior golf leagues - which focus on etiquette and sportsmanship - to golf day camps - which had us playing select holes in a course, the redevelopment of Doon Valley will only provide youth with more opportunities for golf. The Youth are the future of golf and it is clear that Doon Valley is truly concerned about this fact.

73 Metcalfe St - Our Office

Shawn P. Watters and Associates has come a long way since its inception in 1996. Upon beginning, our office was located in a basement bedroom in Shawn's house, eventually moving upstairs into a former garage which was retrofitted into an office. After a few years in the "garage office", our operation outgrew and moved to our current location at 73 Metcalfe St. in beautiful downtown Elora, Ontario. Tucked between Elora's gift shops, restaurants and cafes lies Shawn P. Watters and Associates. As we are located on one of the most heavily trafficked streets in the village, our office often get visitors, who are always welcome to pop by anytime during office hours. Whether golf enthusists or tourists visiting the area, the staff here at Shawn P. Watters and Associates is willing to engage in conversation and show the visitor what project we are currently working on. The office's street presence entinces many visitors - some seek shade under the big awning, photograph the "purple" coloured building itself, or peek through the windows to see architects hard at work. The Busiest Time of the Year

Despite the world's current economic status, we here at Shawn P. Watters and Associates are experiencing one of our busiest times ever. With 5 projects on the go, the staff at SPW Golf has had to work late nights and weekends in order to handle the workload. SPW also hired me, Haydn, to look after the marketing aspect of the business for the summer. So far, I have created advertisments for a magazine (look for our ad in the Fall issue of Golfscene Magazine) as well as a scorecard for one of the developments we are working on. I will also be giving you daily updates on this blog about the ongoings at Shawn P. Watters & Associates. You will be able to get a look at our current work, as well as a glimpse of our past work. We will provide you with some insight into the world of golf course architectuture and you will be able to see what goes on during a daily basis at SPW. Thus being said, let get ready to tee off!
